Netanyahu 'looking forward' to US release of spy Pollard

Jerusalem (AFP) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday welcomed news of the impending release of Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard after 30 years in a US prison.
"After decades of effort, Jonathan Pollard will finally be released," Netanyahu's office quoted him as saying.
"Throughout his time in prison, I consistently raised the issue of his release in my meetings and conversations with the leadership of successive US administrations. We are looking forward to his release."
Pollard, a former US Navy intelligence analyst convicted of spying for Israel, will be released on parole on November 21, his lawyers said earlier.
The decision caps a sensational case that has troubled relations between the United States and its closest Middle East ally since his arrest for passing secrets to the Jewish state in 1985.
"Thirty years of suffering will come to an end this November; not though kindness but through the law," Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked wrote in Hebrew on Facebook.
"Not because of the devastating agreement between the United States and Iran but because of the law," she added, alluding to speculation that Pollard's release was intended as an olive branch to Israel, which was angered by the nuclear deal reached by the US and other world powers with Iran earlier this month.
US Secretary of State John Kerry also denied Pollard's release was linked in any way to the July 14 nuclear deal, which Israel vehemently opposed.

Man Catches 300-Pound Fish, Proves Florida Is A Fisherman's Dream

Sam Gerson and his friends spent an hour trying to reel in a mysterious animal.

Editorial Director, Lifestyle; The Huffington Post
Sam Gerson had no idea what he was in for when he woke up hours before dawn Monday to head to Cape Canaveral, Florida for a day out on a fishing charter. The group boarded the boat and headed out to open sea, passing the Kennedy Space Center on the way.
After a morning watching his friends catch cobia, kingfish and bonito, Gerson decided to try some deep line fishing over a shipwreck site. "I dropped my line in and within seconds of hitting bottom, I felt a strong jerk. As I started reeling in, the rod bent until the tip was almost in the water. Soon I wasn’t reeling, but instead holding on for dear life as line was running out of the spool at an alarming speed," he told The Huffington Post.
Gerson and his friends spent an hour trying to reel in the mysterious animal. They wondered if it was a shark, a grouper, or if they were reeling up the entire shipwreck under their boat. After an hour of sweating, the fish broke the surface: a massive goliath grouper. Estimated by the fishing guide to be over 300 pounds and possibly more than 50 years old, Gerson and his friends quickly dubbed him "The Dinosaur."
Before letting the massive fish go, Gerson wanted a photo with his catch, so he jumped into the water for a snap. "I was able to swim along side this beautiful animal and even touch its huge scales. After a few minutes of this close encounter, it was time to cut the line and let our new friend return to his world, where he is the undisputed king. A few powerful strokes of the tail and he was gone."
We can only imagine the grin on the fisherman's face as he watched the fish swim away.

The US's strategy in Iraq is getting even more confusing

The US's strategy in Iraq is getting even more confusingBusiness InsiderBy Jeremy Bender
(REUTERS/Thaier Al-Sudani) Masked Shi'ite fighters hold their weapons in Al Hadidiya, south of Tikrit, en route to the Islamic State-controlled al-Alam town, where they are preparing to launch an offensive on Saturday, March 6, 2015.
The US is having increasing trouble distinguishing between armed groups that are allied with and opposed to the American-led anti-ISIS coalition in Iraq, Andrew Tilghman reports for the Military Times.
The Pentagon's strategy for Iraq is based upon allied ground forces battling ISIS while the US and its partners provide aerial support and military advisers and training.
On paper, the US is working alongside the Iraqi Security Forces, Kurdish militias, Sunni tribal groups, and sectarian Shiite militias.
But it's becoming difficult for the US to identify which Shiite militias operate independently of Iran. And the US does not want to become a force multiplier for sectarian groups who are an extension of the clerical regime in Tehran's policies in Iraq.
Every militia functions under Iraq's Ministry of Interior. But the Iranian-sponsored militias have informal ties to Tehran that can be difficult to identify US personnel to identify.
"It's a shadow military operating side by side, if you will, with the Iraqi government forces. But these are the forces that the U.S. says it will not support. It becomes very difficult when you try to identify where the units that we'll be supporting are," Rand Corp. senior political scientist Rick Brennan toldthe Military Times.
This opacity could lead to extremely dangerous situations for US personnel. Tehran previously mobilized many of the Iranian-backed Shiite militias to carry out attacks against US soldiers during the US's operations in Iraq last decade. If cooperation with the militias sours during the war against ISIS, these groups could easily turn their guns on US personnel currently in Iraq.
The US's strategy in Iraq is getting even more confusing
"When you talk to military people who have fought in Iraq and they are looking at all of these individuals who are now part of the Popular Mobilization Force, they are the worst of the people who were fighting the US when we were there," Brennan said to the Military Times. "They all have blood on their hands, and there is an uneasiness about where this leads."
Aside from the potential danger that the Iranian-backed militias present to US advisers, the existence of the groups further undermines the Iraqi central government while exacerbating sectarian tensions throughout the country.
Shiite militias have burned down Sunni villages and barred Sunni internally displaced persons from returning to their homes, further antagonizing Iraq's largest sectarian minority.
"The political solution is to have a unified, stable, neutral Iraqi central government that represents the interests of the people," Christopher Harmer, a senior naval analyst at the Institute for the Study of War, told Business Insider recently.
"If we have a Shia militia inside Iraq that is loyal to Tehran, that is not helping achieve the political outcome. From a military perspective, the Shia militias are a good thing. From a political perspective, it's destabilizing."

ART WORK: "Fallen Angel" extremely realistic work created by Chinese artists, Sun Yuan and Peng Yu.

Blurred lines: Passersby stare at latest installation which shows the tension between surrealism and realism
The extremely realistic work was created by Chinese artists, Sun Yuan and Peng Yu.
The pair are known for blurring the lines between art and reality by using materials such as human body fat in their work.

Art lovers were shocked by a 'fallen angel' installation that was unveiled in Beijing this week.
Their latest piece, entitled 'Angel', has just been installed in China's capital, reported People's Daily Online.
The disturbing sculpture depicts an old woman lying tangled on the ground.
To illustrate her fall from grace, the woman also sports featherless wings on her back.

The artists created the piece using silica gel, fiberglass, stainless steel and woven mesh.
However, these materials are pretty tame for the pair.
They have been known to use human fat tissue, live animals and baby cadavers in order to challenge perceptions about death and the human condition.

A group, League of National Patriots (LNP) on Monday charged President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that his probe of past governments should be all encompassing, devoid of any partisan consideration in order not to erode the noble intentions behind such genuine intention.
It equally called on the president  to expedite action in the formation of his cabinet, in order to begin in earnest the process of reviving the country economy and its infrastructure.
The charge was contained in a statement by the Publicity Secretary,
League of National Patriots, Prince Dirisu Abdulrasheed.
The group said it had watched with keen interest the actions taken so far by President Buhari since assuming office after his inauguration on may 29, 2015, noting that "as active stakeholders that worked strenuously for the success of the elections, we are proud of some of the positive initiatives and utterances that have emanated from the government and fully identify with the positive steps so far taken by this government in addressing some of the country's multifarious changes.
