Brussels terrorists initially planned to attack in France, prosecutor says

Terrorists who attacked the Belgian capital last month initially planned to strike again in France but changed their minds as investigators closed in, authorities said Sunday.
"Numerous elements in the investigation have shown that the terrorist group initially had the intention to strike in France again," the Belgian prosecutor's office said in a statement.
Investigators say that the same ISIS network was behind the Paris terror attacks in November and the suicide bombings in the Belgian capital last month.
When the terrorists discovered French investigators were moving fast in their investigation of the November attacks, they changed their plans, the Belgian prosecutor's office said.
"Eventually ... they urgently took the decision to strike in Brussels," the prosecutor said.
Salah Abdeslam, a key suspect in the Paris attacks, was arrested by police in Brussels on March 18. Just four days later, suicide bombers struck at the city's airport and subway station, killing 32 people.
The terror cell had planned to attack high-profile targets in Paris, CNN affiliate BFM reported, citing a source close to the investigation.
A laptop recovered by investigators in Brussels last month included a list of targets in Paris including the financial district, known as La Defense, and a Catholic association, BFM reported.
In November, Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said that investigators had learned that Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the ringleader behind the Paris attacks in November, had planned a suicide attack on La Defense.
Days after the attacks in Paris, Abaaoud was killed in a police raid. So was his female cousin Hasna ait Boulahcen.
Police had received a tip from a female confidential witness.
The witness told police she'd hosted Boulahcen in her home since October, according to documents, and that two days after the Paris attacks, Boulahcen received a phone call when the two of them were together.
The person on the other end of the line asked Boulahcen to find a vehicle and pick someone up in an industrial zone on the outskirts of Paris. The witness goes with Boulahcen and a man steps out from behind a bush. The witness later learns that the man was Abaaoud, the documents say.
The witness told police he wore orange sneakers and claimed he had taken advantage of refugees to come to France to carry out attacks.

    'Man in the hat'

Sunday's announcement came a day after authorities identified Mohamed Abrini, believed to be the third and lone surviving suspect in the Brussels airport attacks.
Authorities said Abrini confessed to being the "man in the hat." He was seen in Brussels airport surveillance images wearing a dark hat and rolling luggage carts with two men believed to be the suicide bombers.
Authorities charged him with participation in terrorist activities, terrorist murders and attempts to commit terrorist murders, the prosecutor's office said.
Abrini is one of six people detained in raids Friday across the Belgian capital. In addition to the Brussels attack, he has been tied through surveillance video and DNA to November's terror attacks in Paris. Those attacks killed 130 people.
Earlier Saturday, the prosecutor's office said it identified the second person seen in surveillance footage from the subway attack in Brussels.
Osama Krayem -- also known as Naim al Hamed -- is seen along suicide bomber Khalid El Bakraoui, according to the Belgian federal prosecutor's office.
He has also been charged with "participation to the activities of a terrorist group and terrorist murders," according to the prosecutor's office.
European security agencies believe Krayem, or Hamed, played an operational role in the attack.
Belgium has emerged as a hotbed of extremism, exporting more foreign fighters per capita to Syria than any other Western European nation, according to the International Center for the Study of Radicalization and Political Violence.
The Brussels and Paris attacks "point to a broad and sophisticated terrorist network in Belgium," the London-based think tank said.

A crane carrying an Air India Airbus A320 snapped early Sunday morning, dropping the plane from about 60 feet in the air.
Airport staff were transporting the aircraft from Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad, India, to a nearby training academy when the cables supporting the 77-ton plane collapsed.

    No injuries were reported.
The aircraft had to be held up at 60 feet during the two-mile trek from airport hangar to academy to "avoid trees and electric poles on the road," police spokesperson Prakash Reddy told Times of India.

Rene Angelil Dead: Celine Dion's Husband Dies at 73

René Angélil, musician and husband of worldwide singing sensation Celine Dion, died on Thursday, January 14, after battling throat cancer, his rep confirms to Us Weekly. He was 73.

"René Angélil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer," the statement to Usread. "The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time."
The Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner also released a separate statement to Us Weekly regarding Angélil's death. "Mr. Angélil, 73, died of throat cancer at his home in Henderson while under the care of a physician," Clark County coroner John Fudenberg said in a statement. "We have determined Mr. Angélil’s death was due to natural causes. No further investigation into his death is expected. Our condolences go out to Mr. Angélil’s family and friends during this difficult time for them."
Dion also confirmed the heartbreaking news via Twitter.
Angélil was born and raised in Montreal and embarked there on a music career in the 1960s. Eventually, he went into the artist management side of the business and became Dion's manager. The French-Canadian couple married in 1994, a few years before Dion cemented her legendary status with her biggest, most iconic song, "My Heart Will Go On,” which was featured in James Cameron's Oscar-winning flick, Titanic.
Dion and her husband share three kids: eldest son René-Charles, 14, and twin boys Nelson and Eddy, 5. The songstress, who took a hiatus from her residency in Las Vegas in August 2014, detailed her husband's health battle in an interview with Us Weekly last August.
"I’m trying really hard to show my children that sickness and things happen in life. You cannot be crying and be depressed and consistently talk about, ‘Oh my God,’" Dion, 47, told Us and other reporters during her return to the stage. "René-Charles is going to be 15 years old soon. He’s a wonderful young man. He’s entered his teenage years, and sometimes we can go really crazy, for some teenagers, but so far so good. I have tremendous respect for my oldest, René-Charles, because he’s showing strength to see his dad this way because he’s been his anchor. When he was younger he knew his dad was older but they bonded a lot. I’m sure it's hard for him."

She added: "Unfortunately there a lot of people struggling with battles. When you have family around I think it helps tremendously."
Dion told Us in that same interview that she was proud of her husband. "He doesn’t stop amazing me," she said of his strength. "I’m being heard through my interviews, through my songs. This is his time to be heard. This is his way. It’s going to be his way, and it’s going to be the way he wants it to be."

The Arsenal shot stopper has equalled David James' record after moving to the Emirates Stadium from Chelsea - but is he better than the likes of David Seaman and Edwin van der Sar?

Is clean sheet king Cech the Premier League's greatest ever goalkeeper?
"I don't believe that anybody still questions Petr Cech today. He is an all-time great in goal and the record speaks for him."

That was Arsene Wenger's tribute to the Arsenal goalkeeper after the Gunners beat Aston Villa 2-0 and Cech recorded his 169th clean sheet, equalling the Premier League record held by David James.

At 33 years of age - relatively young in goalkeeper's terms - Cech has time on his side to eclipse the current record and set a total which will take some beating.

Champions League round of 16 draw ||See who gets who

Arsenal have been drawn against Barcelona while PSG will face Chelsea in the Champions League last 16.
The Gunners have been knocked out at the last 16 stage in the last five consecutive seasons and will have to overcome the holders, whom they lost to back in 2011 having held a 2-1 first-leg lead, if they are to break that trend.
Chelsea's tie against runaway Ligue 1 leaders PSG is a repeat of the 2014-15 last 16 clash, with Laurent Blanc's side having come out on top over the two legs on away goals as they held the Blues to a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Rafael Benitez's Real Madrid, meanwhile, will meet Serie A side Roma, with Cristiano Ronaldo looking to add to the record-breaking 11 goals he scored in the group stage of the competition.

Last year's beaten finalists Juventus have been handed a tricky test against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, who topped Group F with 15 points, and Manuel Pellegrini's Manchester City will take on Dynamo Kyiv.

Zenit, who boast the third highest scorer in the group phase in Artem Dzyuba, tackle Portuguese side Benfica, while Atletico Madrid have been drawn against PSV and Wolfsburg clash with Gent.

Rick Ross talks Adele, Drake vs. Meek Mill, ghostwriting

635848388700167339-PRESS-01-Ross-iTunes-V2.jpgThe Boss is back with brand new music.
After lukewarm reception to 2014's Hood Billionaire, Rick Ross returns more forthright than before on eighth album Black Market, released Friday. With a stacked guest list featuring John Legend, Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige, his latest arrives at the tail-end of a trying year for the hip-hop mogul, who was jailed this summer on charges of kidnapping and assault, and whose on-and-off engagement to model Lira Galore became TMZ fodder.
Rozay called USA TODAY to chat about new music, the Drake and Meek Mill "beef," and why he shares our obsession with Adele:
What sets Market apart: "It's definitely a more personal album," Ross, 39, says. The music is inspired in part by his relationships, prison time and subsequent house arrest this past year. "All of those things came in a place where we created music and I just took advantage of the time that I had to myself." It also sounds more cohesive than past efforts, he says. "I love the way the music feels, just opening the album with Free Enterprise, and by the time you get to Silk Road, you appreciate the silky, soulful sound."
Most personal songs: "When I hear Free Enterprise, I think about when I wrote that record on a small piece of paper and a pen I wasn't supposed to have in county jail," Ross says. "That's followed by me sitting in the cell, pondering what means most to me, which is family, and the head of that is my mother. So I followed that with the record Smile, Mama, Smile. I tried to lay the records down in the same format that they came to me."
Throwing shade at Drake: On new single Color Money, the rapper appears to take a jab at Drake, who publicly feuded this summer with Meek Mill, an artist on Ross' Maybach Music Group label and Nicki Minaj's boyfriend. (The lyric: "My lil’ homie made a million on his girl tour / We back to back and down to whack a (expletive) unborn ... So run, Forrest, got some shooters and they dying, too / I got more money than that (expletive) that you’re signed to.”) Asked about speculation that he's dissing Drake, Ross says, "It's supposed to wake the streets up — it was never about me taking sides. I am (Maybach Music Group). I'm only on one side. Color Money is doing exactly what it's supposed to do: talk to the streets and the real G's."
Why ghostwriting can be OK: Mill's beef with Drake started when he accused the Toronto rapper of using ghostwriters, which has since reopened the conversation about MCs writing their own rhymes. It's a topic that Ross addresses on Market cutGhostwriter, in which he asserts his status as one of hip-hop's most prolific ghostwriters for other artists. "I feel, personally, at the end of the day, it's about the music — it's never been about credit of being a writer," Ross says. "The reasonGhostwriter was created was because it was such a right-now topic." As for rappers he's ghostwritten songs for, he won't name names. "I always just keep it real broad. I respect the artists that I work with and their privacy. I've never needed any validation or outside credit other than the artist just respecting me for coming up with some dope (expletive)."

He loves Adele, too: Shortly after Adele released comeback single Hello last month, Ross surprised hip-hop fans with his own remix of the scorching ballad. Since her 2011 album 21, "she gave me a lot of time to miss her voice, and when I heard Hello, I was like, 'This is a powerful record,' " Ross says. "I remember being in the studio that night and I said, 'Yo, let's pull it up,' and I jumped on it. I'm a huge fan and I love Adele music and I'm just sending love her way." Of course, Ross would be down to collaborate and "that was my way of reaching out. That's how the Boss reach out." As for her impressive sales of more than 4 million since Nov. 20, "it most definitely speaks volumes about her caliber as an artist and the role she plays and the crowd she entertains. She's a powerful figure with a beautiful voice and beautiful music."
